Today I found out that one of my Facebook friends ( she lives in Texas) has been locked up for 6 months! She was in court again due to assault and drug charges only this time she didn’t come out, and has been incarcerated! I’m surprised and shocked and I’m scared for her safety in there, too! I don’t want to be judgemental but it was her own doing that put her in there, and I hope that this will scare her straight and help her to turn her life around, to stay away from her bad influence friends, and stay out of trouble….sort of like “tough love”…
Today I found out that my friend O (from grade 10 and he is now a psychologist) had cancer. He didn’t say what kind as he’s an intensely private person(so I’m guessing it’s something embarrassing like testicle or prostate or something like that) but he said that in the summer they’d “found something ‘really bad’” and in early September he had a ‘big surgery” to remove it and the biopsy/pathology report had just came back that they got it all and he’s now cancer-free but he’s still at risk and they have to keep an eye on him and he still has “medical issues” and requested prayers and positive thoughts. It was his birthday yesterday, too.
Today I had chicken korma and it was just sooooo delicious. I just love Indian food!
Today is one of those days where I’m just so tired I want to go back to bed and sleep all day.
I’ve started watching this funny new TV show called “Son Of Zorn.” I saw a commercial for it and thought it looked interesting so I decided to give it a try and I liked it. So far I’ve seen 2 episodes as it’s just a new show. It’s about this barbarian named Zorn, who is animated, and he leaves his animated fantasy world and moves to the real human world to be closer to his teenage son. In doing so he also inter-acts with his ex-wife, her fiance, and various other people in day-to-day life, incl. the work setting, with hilarious results as he discovers that his brutish, barbarian ways don’t “cut” it in modern-day California, such as not being allowed to cut people in half, for example. He also struggles in trying to connect with his son and be a father, and it’s comical as he tries to adapt to the modern human world and fit in to society. I was laughing my ass off!
I also started watching another show that my mother brought to my attention, called “Born This Way.” It’s a docu-series about 7 friends in California who all have Down Syndrome. They met at a community centre and it shows how , despite having a disability, they still have normal, everyday lives; they have friends, they socialize, they go out, they have fun, they find love, and they have the same thoughts, needs, desires, hopes, and dreams, etc. that we all have, such as finding love, getting married, having kids, moving out on your own, etc. although with a disability these goals are not always as attainable. We also see how they refuse to be defined by their Down Syndrome, and we see the struggles , limitations, and setbacks that go along with it.
This show will do for Down Syndrome like what “Little People Big World” did for people with dwarfism, bringing social awareness ,understanding, and acceptance to those with differences, and showing that they are still people, they just have some challenges and just may need to do things a bit differently. I can relate as well as with my Asperger’s, bi-polar, and Social Phobia I’m also limited, and will never have a fully independent life, and I never really realized it before but I have a disability. That’s why life is always so hard for me, why I always struggle with everything, why math makes my brain hurt, why what comes easy for everyone else and they take for granted I have difficulty with, and why I’ve always been set apart from other people, why I’ve always been different.
